Judging

We have made it clear from the start that Obscura Sessions is for the skaters, and after taking feedback from each round we have made minor updates to the judging system.” says Munro.

For the first time they have introduced ‘intensity and style’ as a major factor in the final results. Not only will each rider be judged on the tricks they land, but how well they perform them and with what style.

In the Tinny Comp each rider will be given a total score out of 10, which will then be applied to the score they received for their total run. This means if you landed a heap of tricks but did them all sketchy you could still lose to a rider that did less tricks but executed them perfectly. Wake to Wake tricks have been added to the Score List and Ollies no longer count as a flat-water trick. A few trick scores have been assessed and changed – each rider will be given the amended score sheet on the day, but they can also be downloaded from wakeskate.com.au.

In the Rail Jam each judge will have the opportunity to add 1 or 2 points to a trick if they feel it was executed with style or they feel the intensity of the trick is worth the bigger score. In the same way they can deduct 1 or 2 points from a trick if they feel it was executed or landed sketchy. This new style of judging is at the discretion of each judge, and their decision is final. As per the request of the skate community one flat-water trick is allowed per lap, but it must be executed between the final 2 towers.

There will be a huge range of prizes from cold hard cash to Nike 6.0 Shoes. So if you think you’ve got what it takes, or just wanna go check out the action, head to wakeskate.com.au for more info.
