This season Sam Singleton has really made a name for himself. Although his been on the scene for a while, his riding has been taken to a whole new level. Whilst on a road trip to South Australia, the Victoria Crew asked him some questions about his riding.
Sam Rennie: Tell us all a bit about yourself…
Sam: I’m 20 years old and I live on a dairy farm in a small town called Blighty in Southern NSW. I work on the farm for Dad and wakeboard on my time off.
Oliver Rennie: Out of all of Australia where is your favourite place to ride and what boat?
Sam: Well my home place where I ride is Bundalong, it a beautiful spot. It’s always flat and surrounded by trees and always provides us with a fun time! My boat is choice is the Malibu Wake setter VLX, 2009 model. I like it because it has a big wake, nice interior for everyone and overall a good ride.
Jacob Hore: Where did you begin wakeboarding?
Sam: I began wakeboarding at Lake Talbot in Narrandera behind a stacer tinnie. My family friends took my out and when I got up I was scared that I was frowned upon, but I did it and every night since I can’t get it off my mind.
Sam Rennie: What is your favourite board?
Sam: To be honest, my favourite board is the 2010 Lyman 139 LTD Edition. The reason I like it is because when you get in it it’s perfect, when you look at it, it’s perfect and I pretty much fell in love.
Oliver Rennie: In your wakeboarding career, you’ve persevered with it, at what moment did you become hooked on wakeboarding?
Sam: When I got hooked on wakeboarding, was when I went out in the Ramsay and our family friend was doing back rolls and since then all I wanted to do is flips and spins.
Jacob Hore: What was your first good manoeuvre?
Sam: One day in the Finley Lake I was trying tantrums for ages and finally stuck it and spent a good lap claiming it hard.
Sam Rennie: Tell us about your love for Double ups?
Sam: I can’t remember the exact moment I first started but, I always used to do 540’s and they felt awesome so started throwing sevens. I finally got the handle and yeah, it was mad! Also pumping out a massive glide and going as big as you can feels awesome!
Oliver Rennie: What are some of your favourite tricks off the double up?
Sam: Well, I have just learnt Hs 900’s and they are amazing. By far the greatest feeling on a wakeboard for me yet. Recently I have been landing Hoochie to Bs 360’s and Stalefish BS 360’s.
Jacob Hore: What is your favourite trick besides a 900?
Sam: Okay well besides a 900 I love to grab it on the nose and do a 540 spin all the way to the flats!
Sam Rennie: Finally who would you like to thank?
Sam: I would like to thank in no particular order, Jacob Hore, Oliver Rennie, and Sam Rennie. The farm, Mum and Dad, Soup bones, Benny Tolson from Liquid Malisha for hooking me up with the tightest clothes and the Watkins (Prowake) for slapping me on the ass and hooking me up.
