While on a trip to the lovely South Australia, Neil from Matrix gave us a shot at the new Matrix Expression MVS. The new MVS has a few minor changes to previous models, and performs just as good as it looks!
Interior
When lounging in the MVS, is starts to become apparent as to why this boat is so popular. The attention to detail and luxurious interior make this boat a very comfortable ride, however, the real work begins underneath the seating, within the construction of the hull.
The hulls construction is quite unique, where, virtually the whole craft, including the bow, the dash and the seat bases, are formed into two moulds- one for the deck and one for the undercarriage. The result-a remarkably rigid boat, which minimises the effect of severe stresses and strains out on the hull when traveling through rough water or hitting a big double up. Above the fibreglass, it's the same story. Quality materials and exceptional craftsmanship result in a superior lounging experience. Throughout all Matrix models, they now come with a new upholstery construction, which uses a triple foam design in all seat bases to increase comfort and longevity.
The abundance of storage options throughout the boat will fit everything you own. The giant observers seat lifts, to give you access for board storage. The is also under-seat storage in the rear lounge, as well as two large lockers, either side of the v-drive. You will also find some nifty storage spaces in the bow as well, and your valuables can go in the lockable glovebox on the dash. Whoever is captain of this ship is also getting a treat, with Farrier gauges strewn across the dash, as well as Mercury's new Smart Tow easy-to-read gauges, and an ergonomically designed throttle and seating position, which can be adjusted to suit the master of the MVS.
Wake
To any normal joe or a punter, a wake is a wake. In skiing, it's annoying, in wakeboarding, it's everything. They don't call it wakeboarding for nothing! Matrix have put together a hull which produces what wakeboarders want. A chunky, lippy and rampy wake. The undercarriage of the MVS has been specifically designed to sit in the water in such a way that displaces as much water as possible, putting minimal stress on the hull. The boat is fitted with an extremely fast pump in, pump out ballast system, which incorporates a 250 litre bow tank, and two 125 litre tanks, either side of the Mercury powerhouse. These tanks, together with the hull shape and wake-enhancing plates, allow you to alter the wake to your desired size and shape. The high bow will keep the kids happy and safe from bow waves and other elements. This then work down towards the stern into the Delta Shaped, flat plain area, which gives the boat it's exceptional performance.
Other Features
There are a few more notable bits and pieces around the MVS that give the boat it's overall appeal and charisma. To start with, Matrix's new tower design is first rate. They have created their own billet tower from scratch which is both practical, and aesthetically pleasing, fitting well with the lines of the hull and windscreen. Attached to the tower were some very trick boardracks, which, with the flick of a button, swing around into the boat, so passengers aren't stepping on the edge of the boat and reaching out over the water to get their boards in and out of the rack. The rider is also guaranteed to get their music choice dialled, as they can adjust settings from the platform, just as they are about to jump into the water.
Summary
Matrix have demonstrated to the market how to create an exceptional product, which is easy on the pocket. From the water up, this boat's construction, overall finish and it's ability to create wakes that will please the whole family, the MVS is a boat which you can sit right next to the fully imported rigs. Australian designed and built from scratch, and with assistance from Mercury in the mechanical department mean you are getting an outstanding product that will return your hours upon hours of happy times on the water.
