QWA Reunion09/12/2009

The QWA is having its 10+ year reunion at Somerset Hall on Sat Dec 12 at 7pm.

The QWA was around when wakeboarding was in its infancy. I remember heading off to my first QWA event with a dodgy 180 on a HO Barf fish (the new twin tip board) and my American Wake mag featuring Aussie Shannon Best and his brand new S bend.

Arriving at my first comp at Kurwongbah thinking I might see the odd flip, to arrive to the site and watch Matt Dance and Luke Wulf battle out the open division both with massive S bends in their run. The tow boat was Chris Ogrady's Success Craft with a steel 44 gallon drum of water in the back seat. The wake was the biggest thing I had ever seen.

The QWA was strong and had already been going for a few years. If you don't remember this but you remember Ken Wearing's Land Cruiser rolling down the slopes of Lake Joyda, Brendons Wulfs massive raleys with bungey bindings, Good Man Gone playing "I'm a Garden Knome" on the top of 2 house boats at Santa Barbara for the first photo shoot for the new mag 'Wake" Then this reunion is for you.

What about watching the 13 year old cable king Mark Kenny rip behind the boat, do you remember Rubber Jungles ability be a chaperone. Lighty's first nose ring, Mark Macnamara heading to the USA, Do you remember who rode for Wake Tech, Iccon and Full Tilt wake boards, how many inverts were in the video "Spray".

Do you remember Leza Dance blitzing all the ladies in Aus, and all but Tara in the USA, and some rider eating a banana is his expression session on the Maroochy River.

Since those days we have witnessed the coming of the New Crew, heaps of national and world champions, visits from Bonifays, Shaprio, Byerley. Qld Malibu and Liquid Force, Obrien, Masterline and Rubber Jungle supported us every year. We have hosted nationals and even a Worlds with Brendon and the "Matt and John team" running the event.

If you have ever been a member of the QWA lets retell those and all the other stories over a cold beverage at the :-
